Rob Font Willing to Wait for Forward Movement

Following his UFC Fight Night 183 win over Marlon Moraes, Rob Font seems primed for a jump into title contention. The newly minted No. 5-ranked Ultimate Fighting Championship bantamweight (No. 7 on Sherdog’s independent rankings) just needs a new dance partner to help cement his championship level status. However, much of the talent in the Top 10 are booked for bouts over the next two months, leaving Font with the option of waiting out the matchmaking log jam or take on the challenge of lower ranked talents like Cody Stamann, Merab Dvalishvili or Yadong Song. When asked about those three men specifically, the 33-year-old was none too interested.

“I want anything that can get me moving forward. So, I’ll probably have to wait this one out. None of those fights excite me,” Font told Sherdog. “I would love to get in there and be a replacement for the Jimmie Rivera [and] Pedro Munhoz fight. Obviously, I don’t want anything to happen, but just in case. Jimmie, I haven’t fought him but I would love to get in there with him. Munhoz, I lost to him and been looking to get that rematch. That would be the last case scenario. In a perfect world, I’d get the [T.J.] Dillashaw fight. If I don’t get that, the [Jose] Aldo fight. That’s best-case scenario.”

Along with talking about what could be next for him in 2021, Font spoke in detail about his victory over former title contender Moraes.
