Pedro Munhoz Expects an Ageless ‘Answer’ at UFC on ESPN 15

As Frankie Edgar makes his long-awaited move to the bantamweight division, there are some that may feel the former Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight titleholder’s best days are behind him. He has lost three of his last four, with two of those defeats being first round knockouts. Plus, the one-time featherweight title challenger will turn 39 in October. However, don’t count Pedro Munhoz as a subscriber to this theory. The No. 5 ranked 135-pounder believes Edgar remains an elite-level fighter, and he is expecting no less when he steps into the Octagon with him on Aug. 22 at UFC on ESPN 15.

“That’s a good question actually,” Munhoz told Sherdog when asked if Edgar had regressed in recent years. “To be honest with you, I don’t think so. Like you said, he was fighting Max Holloway, Brian Ortega, ‘Korean Zombie.’ These are very tough fighters. They have heavy hands and heavy punches. Big guys, and Frankie Edgar I guess realized a natural division for him would be bantamweight. I really think he’s going to be very strong, sharp, fast, and he’s a guy that’s super smart. He knows how to fight. I’m really training [and] getting ready to fight the best version of him. He’s a legend and I don’t take anything from him.”

Along with speaking on certain details of his pivotal match-up inside Las Vegas’ UFC Apex, Munhoz also talked about a positive COVID-19 test forcing the bout to be rebooked and the new safety precautions at his home gym American Top Team. Plus, he gave his thoughts on Petr Yan’s championship-winning performance against Jose Aldo.
